WhatsApp introduces a new feature to notify users about unread messages.

Overlooking unread messages in WhatsApp conversations with the intention of checking them later is a common issue. Fortunately, this will soon be addressed as the application is poised to launch a reminder notification feature for its users.

This innovative feature is anticipated to be part of a forthcoming update; nonetheless, beta testers presently have access to it in the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.29, now available on the Google Play Store as reported by WABetaInfo.

The chat notification feature, once limited to status updates, now allows users to get reminders for unread messages from certain contacts, chosen automatically by the application.

The selection of these contacts is determined by an internal algorithm that gives precedence to those with whom the users interact most frequently.

It’s important to note that this algorithm is specific to the current installation of WhatsApp. Should a user reinstall the app, WhatsApp would have to reevaluate these interactions since this data is neither preserved in backups nor stored on the server.

The new message reminder feature enables users to receive notifications for any unread messages from contacts they frequently interact with.

For example, if a user frequently interacts with someone but fails to read one of their messages, WhatsApp might send a reminder regarding the unread message.

WhatsApp takes a considerate approach to prevent users from being overwhelmed by excessive notifications, ensuring that reminders are relevant and non-intrusive.

Beta testers currently have access to this feature, but it is expected to be made available to a wider audience in the upcoming days.
