Trump states that Assad has ‘fled’ Syria following the loss of Russia’s support.

US president-elect Donald Trump stated on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has “left his country” following the loss of support from Russia.

“He stated on his Truth Social platform, ‘Assad has fled.’ He added, ‘His protector, Russia, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, is no longer interested in his protection.'”

Syrian rebels announced on Sunday that they have concluded Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year authoritarian rule, marking their initial declaration on state television after a swift offensive that astonished the global community.

On Sunday, Syria’s military command informed officers that the Assad regime had concluded, according to a Syrian officer briefed on the situation as reported by Reuters.

However, the Syrian army later stated that it was continuing operations against “terrorist groups” in the towns of Hama, Homs, and the Deraa countryside.

Assad, known for suppressing dissent, departed Damascus for an undisclosed location earlier on Sunday, according to two senior army officers speaking to Reuters, while rebels reported entering the capital without encountering military resistance.

“The rebels proclaimed a victory alongside the Syrian people with the liberation of detainees and the cessation of oppression at Sednaya prison,” they stated, referencing the notorious military facility near Damascus where the Syrian government had incarcerated thousands.

Thousands of people, both in vehicles and on foot, gathered in a central square in Damascus, waving and chanting for “Freedom” from the Assad family’s rule of over fifty years, according to witnesses.
