Instagram now allows users to respond to chats within broadcast channels.
Instagram ranks as the third most popular social media platform worldwide, boasting 2.11 billion monthly active users. However, despite its vast user base, the platform has faced numerous operational challenges, resulting in user dissatisfaction.
Instagram has recently introduced a major update: the option to enable replies in Broadcast Channels, allowing for two-way communication between creators and their followers.
Broadcast Channels, introduced last year, functioned as a one-way communication tool that allowed creators to send messages to their followers but did not permit any replies. This restriction limited the creators’ capacity to interact directly with their audience.
Following user feedback, Meta has implemented a significant update. Creators now have the option to allow replies on their broadcast channels, enabling followers to interact with posts and participate in discussions. These replies are tidily arranged under the original message to keep conversations well-organized.

The new feature transforms broadcast channels from simple announcement platforms into dynamic environments, fostering a shift from one-way communication to engaging community dialogues.
Instagram is enhancing engagement by introducing “Prompts” alongside replies. These Prompts allow creators to ask questions or make statements that spark conversations, such as asking followers to share what they’re grateful for or to give their favorite recommendations.
Followers are given a 24-hour window to respond with text or photos and can also like other responses. These functionalities increase the interactivity of Instagram’s Broadcast Channels, making them more akin to the real-time, community-focused engagement seen on platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter) and Discord.
Instagram sets itself apart with its efficient organization by consolidating all responses under the original post, making it easier for creators to manage discussions.
Moreover, the introduction of new metrics like total interactions and story shares provides creators with crucial insights into how their audience engages. Meta also provides customized guidance to help creators improve their channels.
